Two years ago we decided to move house, it was a big decision at the time because I was six months pregnant with Holly and about to start maternity leave. But, we felt it was now or never, house prices were going up and we just had to go for it.
Looking for our next house was not an easy task, as the list of what we wanted from our new home was getting longer and there were not many things we were happy to compromise on. The most important space for us was the living space, we wanted a nice open plan area, one where we could cook, eat, relax, play and entertain.
I remember seeing our house come on the market and I could tell from the pictures that I was going to love it, by this point I was now eight months pregnant and the open house was a week before my due date. I told my mum that if I went into labour she had to go to the viewing, as I just had a good feeling about it.
Luckily Holly stayed put and we made it to the viewing and my instincts were right, the minute we walked in we had a good feeling about the house. As we walked in further into the main open plan living we both looked at each other and smiled, knowing that we both loved it.
The kitchen is a really important part of the house for me, I love to cook and bake with my girls and I wanted more space than we had previously. I wasn’t disappointed, it was gorgeous with a built in oven and microwave. A lovely breakfast bar and it even had a wine fridge there was nothing not to love about it. We were sold!
Sat here now eighteen months later and I still love our house, but I feel there is more that we could do with the space. The living space which consists of the kitchen, dining area and living space, is an ‘L’ shape and the flow of the room and floor creates a separate kitchen and then the dining area and living area flow into each other.
We have two large patio doors and one leads out to a small patio area, which the kitchen back door also leads out to. We don’t really use this space, as we have another larger patio and garden. It feels like we could use this space so much better and extended the kitchen space to create a kitchen/diner.
I have always dreamt of the day that I could design my own kitchen and I look at that space and picture what it would be like. I love the idea of having a kitchen extension with a roof window and those gorgeous bi-folding doors that creates so much light in the room.
The new kitchen extension would be a place for our large kitchen table and on a lovely summers evening we could open the bi-folding doors to let the outdoors in. It would give us two distinct areas, but still maintaining the open plan living that we love.
These days there is just so much choice when deciding on extending your home. Oakley Green Conservatories have so many options to give you that extra living space you dream about and they are now built to keep you warm even on a cold winters’s day.
With all this choice you really can create your perfect kitchen space…
