Creating the Perfect Kitchen…

*This is a collaborative post*

Two years ago we decided to move house, it was a big decision at the time because I was six months pregnant with Holly and about to start maternity leave. But, we felt it was now or never, house prices were going up and we just had to go for it.

Looking for our next house was not an easy task, as the list of what we wanted from our new home was getting longer and there were not many things we were happy to compromise on. The most important space for us was the living space, we wanted a nice open plan area, one where we could cook, eat, relax, play and entertain.

I remember seeing our house come on the market and I could tell from the pictures that I was going to love it, by this point I was now eight months pregnant and the open house was a week before my due date. I told my mum that if I went into labour she had to go to the viewing, as I just had a good feeling about it.

Luckily Holly stayed put and we made it to the viewing and my instincts were right, the minute we walked in we had a good feeling about the house. As we walked in further into the main open plan living we both looked at each other and smiled, knowing that we both loved it.

The kitchen is a really important part of the house for me, I love to cook and bake with my girls and I wanted more space than we had previously. I wasn’t disappointed, it was gorgeous with a built in oven and microwave. A lovely breakfast bar and it even had a wine fridge there was nothing not to love about it. We were sold!

Sat here now eighteen months later and I still love our house, but I feel there is more that we could do with the space. The living space which consists of the kitchen, dining area and living space, is an ‘L’ shape and the flow of the room and floor creates a separate kitchen and then the dining area and living area flow into each other.

We have two large patio doors and one leads out to a small patio area, which the kitchen back door also leads out to. We don’t really use this space, as we have another larger patio and garden. It feels like we could use this space so much better and extended the kitchen space to create a kitchen/diner.

I have always dreamt of the day that I could design my own kitchen and I look at that space and picture what it would be like. I love the idea of having a kitchen extension with a roof window and those gorgeous bi-folding doors that creates so much light in the room.

The new kitchen extension would be a place for our large kitchen table and on a lovely summers evening we could open the bi-folding doors to let the outdoors in. It would give us two distinct areas, but still maintaining the open plan living that we love.

These days there is just so much choice when deciding on extending your home. Oakley Green Conservatories have so many options to give you that extra living space you dream about and they are now built to keep you warm even on a cold winters’s day.

With all this choice you really can create your perfect kitchen space…

Ooh how fabulous! I’d love to have a massive kitchen diner with a bifold patio. I wanted to put bifold doors in when we did our double glazing, but the cost was too restrictive. They are beautiful though.

We moved into our current home two years ago and though i love the layout and size of our kitchen, i would love to upgrade the cabinets, spruce up the walls with a fresh lick of paint and have an island put in. I think it’s all about having a space that works for you as a family, and like you, the kitchen is the heart of our home as we spend so much time in there cooking and baking with the boys.

So jealous right now of your kitchen, it sounds worlds apart from mine haha our kitchen is so small and hardly any space. I would love to get an extension done and a big new kitchen with plenty of worktops. I think it would be great to create the perfect space.

Love that kitchen. That’s one of the reasons why we decided to move too. I wanted a bigger kitchen. We have that now, so I’m really pleased about the move, like you are too 🙂

We’re not a huge fan of our kitchen at all. It’s not really a style we’d pick ourselves but it’s perfectly livable with. We’re planning to move house at somepoint next year so we’ve no plans to do anything with our current kitchen as it would seem a waste of money. However, in our next house we’d love to have our dream kitchen.

These sound like exciting plans! I do love daydreaming about our perfect family home, sadly just a dream for the time being as we won’t be able to move any time soon and no room to extend.

The kitchen is a huge part of house hunting for us too! We’re looking for somewhere we can do up ourselves and it’s so tough finding the ‘right’ one! So pleased you found your lovely home xx

I am in love with the kitchen decor here. I think the kitchen is the most important part of the home.

I have so much kitchen envy! My kitchen is falling apart and we live in rented accomodation so there is very little we can do about it. I can but dream of having my own tailor made kitchen!

Oh how I would love a kitchen with folding doors out in to a lovely garden space! We are lucky enough to have a kitchen large enough for a big family dining table, but because we rent we can’t do much with the space. Your ideas sound great!

We’ve done our new kitchen, it isn’t our dream kitchen as I would love a big extension with a kitchen diner. However I am happy with what we have done ourselves. Well done on finding your home, when you know, you know!
