Wearing Hair Up…The Ordinary Moments

I have often spoken about how much Holly takes after me and Alice after her daddy, but there is one thing that Alice has got from me. She doesn’t like things in her hair…

As a child I didn’t like to wear my hair up, I did get better as I started school and wanting to be like my friends. Even now as an adult I very rarely wear my hair up, in fact I only really wear it up on holiday, when I go swimming or if its really hot and annoying me.

Alice has followed in my footsteps and has never liked me putting clips in her hair, wearing a hair band and definitely not in a pony tail. Which meant that I have kept it in a long bob to keep it tidy.

There has been the odd moment, when we went to Centre Parcs last year my niece had an Elsa plait and Alice asked my sister in law to do her hair the same. It was so strange seeing her with her up, I couldn’t stop looking at her or taking photos!

But that was a one off. Last week we were in Portugal and I brought some new clips and hair bands in the hope that Alice might let me put her hair up. It was going to be warm and we would be swimming a lot.

I set the scene for her about how much she loved to go under water and when she came up her hair would go in her eyes and how much better it would be if I tied it back. I won her over and she let me put her hair up in a pony tail. She looked so cute, but also so grown up.

Even on holiday Alice had to stand by a door for a photo…

I thought the minute she got out the water she would pull it out, but she didn’t. She wore her hair up all day and even more shocking was she asked if the next day she could have two ponytails…bunches!

That was it she was hooked and every day she had her hair up. We had ponytails, bunches and even Anna plaits as she liked to call them. I loved every morning doing her hair, it was always something I pictured doing with my daughters.

When we came back from holiday I wondered if that would be it, she would go back to telling me she didn’t want it up. But to my surprise she has, not every day which is fine. But, she did for ballet class this week and I have to say it’s the cutest she has looked for ballet, in her tutu and Anna plaits.

I really hope that the extraordinary moment of putting Alice’s hair up, will become an ordinary moment for us and we can grow her hair a bit longer…

Aww she looks so cute with it up,especially the Anna plaits. It does make them look that little more grown up doesn’t it? My niece has the curliest hair ever and she hated it tied up so would just run about with wild hair 🙂

She looks so cute! I hated having things in my hair and now I have my hair in a pixie cut to avoid the need for it. Although weirdly I’m looking forward to my daughter’s hair being long enough to put up, it just feels like some sort of milestone. x

Aw she looks lovely with her hair up. This made me smile because my biggest girl is the same. Don’t get me wrong she has her hair up because it is so long, but it has always been just a pony tail. However recently, like Alice, she has been asking for slightly different styles- mainly because her best friend at school wears double plaits and she wants to be the same. In a way I am kind of glad she isn’t too keen as I am terrible at doing hair! xx

So cute – for ages my daughter’s hair was too short and it’s still very fine so tends to escape from everything but she’s suddenly discovered plaits (Elsa plaits! Well, kind of) and looks so grown up.

Awww bless her, she looks very cute with bunches and I hope she now let’s you do it all the time and it does indeed become an ordinary moment. It’s funny how they suddenly change thief preferences! Xx

Aww she looks adorable with the bunches, I hope that she doesn’t change her mind back and that it does become an ordinary moment for you. Funny how they change those preferences for no rhyme or reason! Xx

Aww, she’s beautiful! She can pull off any hairstyle and glad she likes her hair up and perhaps letting it grow longer to do some amazing hairstyling! 😀

Awww bless her. I can just imagine how sweet she looked in her ballet outfit with her hair up. I’m now a little scared too that my own daughter may ask one day that I do the same for her and I wont know how to. #TheOrdinaryMoments

Oh, she looks lovely! You’re amazing at doing hair, especially as you don’t do it that often! My little girl will want you to adopt her if she sees that, I’m so terrible at it!
