I am always looking for new brands of toys for my girls, as you can imagine having two girls we have many toys. So, I like to try and find new and exciting ones. Toys that have an element of fun or they are learning through playing. I also love to find toys that can be packed away nicely once they have finished.
So, when Wicked Uncle got in touch and said we could choose some toys to review, it was a very quick yes.
If you haven’t come across Wicked Uncle before they are not just a toy company, they are essentially a present service for birthdays, Christmases and other occasions. They are the only toy shop in the world that doesn’t sell primarily to parents.
Their concept is about sending presents to other people’s children and to make this as easy as possible.
Even though I have two girls of my own, I sometimes struggle to know what to buy for my niece who is two years older than Alice. I am not aware of what five year olds are into and this where Wicked Uncle can help.
They divide everything by age and gender because those are the things everyone knows about any child. However, because they know there are plenty of science mad girls out there, and that lots of boys are into crafty things too, you can also search by what they like doing; maybe you know the child is creative, or into outdoorsy things. There is also an option to just search ‘ALL’ so you can see everything they have to offer.
Of course it’s also great for buying for your own children too. I sometimes struggle for ideas for Holly, as we have a lot of things already through Alice.
It was really to use the site and I could easily narrow down my choices for both the girls. You have an option to have the present gift wrapped and to add a message card. The only problem with this was that I could only write one message card, even though I was buying two items, one each for my girls. To have a separate message card for Holly, I would have to do a separate order, which I didn’t want to do.
For Alice I choose a Magnetic Wooden Dress Up Dolls Set. Alice loves to play with dolls and I knew this would really appeal to her. It came in a bag, which is great to pop it all away in when she has finished. Plus I can easily take it with us when we go away on holiday.
It comes with two wooden dolls, who Alice named Daisy and Poppy and there are several different outfits to dress them up in, with accessories too. They come with a stand each to make them stand up. Alice could easy put the different outfits on the dolls and when she stood them up, they stayed in place.
Alice spent ages playing with these, pretty much the whole of Holly’s two hour nap. She started to do imagination play where they were getting ready to go to ballet.
For Holly I choose a Make your Own Zoo Rolling Animals set. Again these are magnetic pieces that go together to make the animals.
Each animal has three parts, plus the crocodile has wheels to add on.
Holly quickly got the idea of what she had to do, it was just working out which bit went where that took longer. Once they were built she could roll the crocodile along on his wheels.
Alice was intrigued by her sister’s toy and came to join in too. Holly was watching how Alice did it and copied her. Such a clever girl!
Holly’s came in a nice sturdy box that I could pop all the bits away in afterwards. I don’t know about you, but I hate losing parts of toys. Holly has got this out a few times since we have had it wanting to have ago, so it must be a hit!
The toys also came with this little note for the child to say thank you, which I thought was a nice touch.
Overall I like the concept of Wicked Uncle and the quality of the toys was amazing, they will last a long time.
Disclosure: We received these toys from Wicked Uncle for the purpose of this review, however all opinions are my own.
