I’m back with another 7 seven books that I’ve recently read and loved. I know these posts are always popular, it seems people love a book recommendation just like me.
Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty
The number one Sunday times bestseller and I can see why. It had me hooked from the start and a twist in the middle that blew my mind. Nine stressed strangers turn up a health retreat, a place that promises transformation. They believe they are turning up to get rid of their tension, to have hot stone massages. They are miles from anywhere, without their cars and phones. Cut off from the whole world and no way of getting hold of anyone. Time to themselves and to get to know each other. The owner of the retreat watches over them, she is a woman with her own mission. She has a dark agenda that the nine strangers have no idea what they’ve got ahead of them!
A Good Enough Mother by Bev Thomas
I wasn’t too sure what to expect from this book going on the title. But it turned out to be another book that I couldn’t put down. It tells the story of Ruth, who is an experienced therapist and her patient. Alongside her role as a mother and her children, who are twins. When a new patient arrives who has experienced a trauma and for a split second, he looks like her son that disappeared 18 months ago. As a therapist she knows exactly what to do for her client. But as a mother she makes decisions that will have a profound consequence.
Mad Girl by Bryony Thomas
Reading this book was the first time I had heard of Bryony Thomas. Bryony has OCD and in her life it has caused alopecia, bulimia, and drug dependency. Keeping silent about her illness has given it a cachet it simply does not deserve, so in this book she shares her story with wit and dazzling honesty. Its a funny, unpredictable, heart wrenching and raw and honest book. It made me love Bryony.
Love, Interrupted: Navigating Grief One Day at a Time by Simon Thomas
Simon Thomas is well known for being a Sky Sports presenter, a job he loved and worked well around his life with his loving wife and adored son. Sadly his wife is suddenly taken from him, and he has to navigate his way through grief and becoming a single parent. Its a raw, emotional read, sharing that early bereavement and how to come to terms with sudden death. Simon talks about his faith, alcohol dependency and mental health. Its a true and honest account of learning to live again after a devastating loss.
The Widow by Fiona Barton
A book that I couldn’t stop reading. It tells the story of Jean, a wife living an ordinary life with her husband. Glen was all she ever wanted in life. Until one day he was on the front page of every newspaper across the country, a man accused. A monster! Jean was married to a man who everyone thought was evil, but she stood by him. But he is dead now and Jean is alone, its her time to tell us what she knows. The truth. My heart went out to Jean throughout this story, and its an unsettling story that is a page turner.
