Creating A Navy Blue Downstairs Bathroom…

In November last year I decided that I wanted to decorate the downstairs toilet. It was currently painted off-white and apart from a mirror on the wall and one frame, it was very empty and bland. I decided on a whim that I wanted to go bold and paint the whole room navy blue.

Andy wasn’t too sure, but said I could go ahead. I went to Homebase and decided on the Dulux, sapphire salute navy blue. I didn’t bother with a tester and just went for it. I’m really pleased that I did, I love it and I haven’t regretted it.

I decided to accessorise it with black and gold, and hints of white. One of my favourite parts of decorating a room is finding all the accessories. I spend ages browsing sites and finding just what I’m looking for. I instantly knew that I wanted a shelf unit and decided to go with this circle design which is from The Range.

I love a draping plant and brought this one from Ikea, along with the gold plant pot. The black photo frame is from Sainburys and both the candles are from Next.

In the window I brought this plant from Matalan.

On the opposite wall, which is also next to the door, I have a caricature of Andy and I from our wedding day. We hired a caricature on our wedding day and he went around drawing all our guests, as a little present for them to take home. I love going to other people’s houses and seeing them in their homes. We’ve always had it in the downstairs toilet and I swapped the frame to a black one.

Underneath the window is the toilet, and next to it on one side is a black bin. On the other side I brought a shelving unit from Argos.

I brought the cute zebra plant from Matalan and a basket to store the toilet rolls in. I still need to find something to sit on the shelf above it.

On the other side is the sink and I brought a black plant stand from Matalan. The plant that sits inside it, is from Ikea and I thought it tied in the white from the sink.

The plant on the other side of the sink I already had in the dining room, but I felt it fitted in better here and moved it. It was from Next in the sale a couple of years ago.

Above the sink we have a round black mirror, which is from Dunelm and I brought the black knob it hangs off, from Amazon.

My white with black detail macrame was hand made by a friend of mine who runs Pincushions and Peonies. I love it and it looks gorgeous hung against the blue.

Its not a very big room, and I added a bath mat for the floor. I went for a white, with black detail and I love how it looks.

I absolutely love how its turned out. Its transformed this room and every time I go in there it makes me smile. It was a bold move to paint it blue, but I don’t regret it. Andy loves it too, which is a bonus.
