The Coronavirus Diary…#17

Tuesday 1st September 2020

I haven’t written a diary entry for weeks and weeks, mainly because the summer holidays arrived and life became busy. Since my last entry, Alice finished year three and Holly finished year one. Of course Alice never did get a chance to return to school and graduated Mummy’s home school 🙂

Its been a full on summer, with our holiday to Cornwall, which was amazing and just what we all needed. Then when we got back, it was Alice’s 8th Birthday and we visited Highclere Castle. Then it was Andy’t birthday, which was very low key as he was working. Then it was Holly’s 6th Birthday and we had a trip to the beach.

We’ve had a summer of meeting up with friends and seeing family. Enjoying the quieter, simple days and realising that we don’t need big days out to have fun. It’s been really lovely, but please no more picnics!!!!

As I look to next week, and the girls returning to school, its with mixed feelings. I’m desperate for a break, I’ve not been without a child since March and as someone who likes her own space, I’m in need of some. But, I will miss them. Whilst home schooling was tough going, and not something that I want to do again. I look back at the break times, when Alice made her hot chocolate and I had my coffee and we had that time together. It won’t be the same just making a coffee on my own.

The girls are excited about going back. Holly is back together with all her school year and Alice is in a class with some lovely friends. It will be different, but what I learnt when Holly went back to school before summer, is how resilient they are. I’m sure once we get used to the new ways of doing things, it will quickly become normal and we can relax a bit more. The good thing is we’re all in this together.

I now have a few more days with the girls before they start back at school next Monday. We’re seeing friends and family and making the most of the sunny days and time together.
