The Coronavirus Diary…#18

Wednesday 4th November 2020

I haven’t managed to write an update since the beginning of September, when the girls went back to school it felt like the weeks flew by. The girls were brilliant at going back to school and they loved being back with their friends.

Alice was able to return to brownies at the village hall and Holly started back with her swimming lessons. It was nice to have some normality, whilst keeping them safe. We managed to get to half term, with no cases at either of the girls school, which was great.

The government brought in 3 different tiers, for the country depending on the level of cases in each area. We were put in tier 1, because we have very low numbers here. This meant that we could see people up to a maximum of 6 people. Some areas were in tier 2 and a lot of the north areas were put in tier 3.

Andy was off work for half term, which was lovely. We managed to have a few nice days out and some days at home. The girls were really tired after the first half term back to school and it was nice to have some time to relax at home.

At the end of the week, we got news from Alice’s school that a teacher she had come in contact with before half term, had coronavirus. Which meant that she now had to self isolate until 5th November, This meant that the rest of us were allowed to leave the house, but Alice couldn’t. Luckily the weather was very wet, which made it easier being stuck indoors. It also meant that Alice to had to home school. It was different this time, because her teacher did a lot of the teaching online, which made it a lot easier.

We also had an announcement from the Prime Minister to say that we were going into a second lockdown, starting on Thursday 5th November. All non-essential shops have to close, hospitality has to close and hairdressers etc. Everyone is to stay at home as much as possible, but we are allowed out for exercise. This time schools are staying open, which is a big relief. Our children deserve an education and also they need the routine. I’m pleased that they’ve made this decision.

With the news of Alice having to self isolate and then the announcement about another lockdown, it was hard to be positive about it. It feels like this is never going to end. Seeing people not following the rules, makes it hard. But, today I’ve decided to be more positive. I’m thankful that we all have our health, that my family and friends are safe and well.

I was pleased to see that the National Trust places are staying open, which means we can still enjoy a day out. In fact our weekends won’t change much. We haven’t been able to see friends for a while anyway, and with the colder weather we generally stay in more. Andy and I have some DIY jobs around the house, that we will hopefully now have time to do them.

At the moment the Lockdown is until 2nd December. I’m hoping that it’s not extended, but that will all depend on how much people follow the rules.

There may not be an end in sight yet, but we will get through it.
