The Coronavirus Diary…#27

Wednesday 21st April 2021

Since I last wrote, we’ve taken another step on the road map of coming out of lockdown. Restaurants, cafes and pubs can now open serving people outdoors. Hairdressers and non-essential shops can open and a lot more. Whilst I haven’t rushed to the shops or the pubs, I am looking forward to having my hair done tomorrow. It’s great for all the businesses that have been shut, to now re-open and we’ve been doing our best to support them when we can.

The girls enjoyed their two weeks Easter holidays and we spent it meeting up with friends and family for walks. It was lovely to see them with their friends again, just being children. It was the one thing that has been missing. They are now back to school and are enjoying being back. It’s good for them to have normality and routine and the chance to learn and see their friends. I just want my children to have a normal childhood, as I’m sure everyone else does.

Last weekend we had a day out and it was just what we needed. We weren’t sure what the weather was going to be like, but it turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. We walked along the beach, the girls skimmed stones in the sea, we had a picnic and they played football and we ended the day with an ice cream. It was a simple day out and it felt really nice to see the sea. There is something about it, that just makes me relax and not feel all the stresses of life.

The next step on the roadmap is that we can meet people indoors and that will be a big step. It’s weird that some of my friends haven’t been inside our house for over a year. The popping in for a coffee feels like a distant memory and I wonder if we will ever go back. I was talking to my friend about it yesterday, and we were saying how nice it is to meet up for a walk and catch up. We can grab a takeaway coffee, which helps a small business and we get some fresh air and exercise. I always feel so much better whenever I’ve met up with a friend for a walk. I come home a little bit lighter. I think this is a big positive to come from the last year and one that I will definitely continue to do.

This week I’ve been getting back into my normal routine when the girls are at school. No more working in the evenings for me! Holly is back doing her swimming lessons, which is brilliant and she loves it. Next week Alice’s Brownies are meeting up all together and I’m really pleased it is no longer on zoom. A little bit of normality is coming back into our lives.
