At the moment I think a lot of people are missing being able to go out for meals and I know that I am also struggling to come up with new meal ideas, to make them more exciting. It would be nice for Andy and I to have a nice meal together at home, a chance to put down our phones and talk. What I find with a lot of meals, is that you need lots of spices, garnishes, pastes etc and buying a whole pot, when you only need 1 teaspoon can make it an expensive and wasteful meal.
I was recently introduced to Simply Cook and their idea solves this problem for you. They are a subscription service, but Simply Cook only provide the spices and not the fresh ingredients. Not only making it an affordable service, but a practical one too. I couldn’t wait to try it out.
There are over 100 recipes to choose from and one of my choices was the Chicken Katsu Curry. One thing that I like about Simply Cook is that because they are only delivering the spices, the box fits straight through the letterbox, which means when life gets back to normal we don’t have to make sure we’re home.
The recipe cards have a shopping list on the side that you can tear off to take with you to the shops. If you do forget the list, then you can also download the app and find the shopping list. Most of the ingredients I already had like, carrots, cucumber, onion and rice. I only needed to buy the breaded chicken and the coconut milk. I like that most of the ingredients are everyday items that people tend to buy anyway.
The recipe kit that Simply Cook sends you has the pots of spices that you will need to make your dish.
The recipe shows you the ingredients needed if you’re serving 2 people or 4 people, making it easy to make a family meal. It also has tips on adapting the recipe to suit you. For example, you could swap the breaded chicken for plain chicken breasts or the chicken for aubergine. If you want a milder version to not add as much gochujang sauce and add more coconut milk.
While the chicken was cooking I made the pickled salad, that is a nice side dish to have with your chicken katsu curry. All I had to do was slice my cucumber and mix in the pickled salad mix that they sent me with some water. It was really easy!
The recipe was really easy to follow and from start to finish it took me 20 minutes. What I had at the end was a delicious meal, that looked and tasted like it came from a restaurant.
Andy was very impressed when he saw our meal and it tasted amazing. It was really nice to sit down and have a meal together and talk. The picked salad was a big hit too.
You can choose 4 recipe kits and the other meals I choose are Penne Alla Rustica, Nasi Goreng and Chicken Makhani and I can’t wait to try them out. Alice loves trying new food and we will definitely be having these meals as a family.
I really like the Simply Cook concept it is affordable at £9.99 for 4 recipe kits and the best bit is because they only supply the spices, the expiry dates are really long and it means that I don’t have to make them all in the same week. Making it more affordable and realistic for us.
Plus it’s free delivery!
You can get your first box for just £3 and you can cancel your subscription at anytime.
I can definitely see us using Simply Cook again, it was easy to make, delicious meals and affordable.
