As a family we love play games together, its a way for us to spend time together and have some fun too. Alice in particular loves a board game and I’m always looking for new games for her.
We were recently sent two new games from Gibsons, who have done a collaboration with the Transport For London and we couldn’t wait to try them out.
The first game is called Mind The Gap and the recommended age is 6+. It is a card game that comes in a handy tin, making it easy to take out and about with you, as well as playing at home. It’s a family game that you step on board for a trip around London’s famous underground. It’s features all the famous stations and you quickly become used to all the underground train lines too.
Each player is dealt 8 cards and the rest of the cards are placed in the middle, and you turn the first card over. Each station card has all the train lines that are available at that station, and you have to match a station from the previous card in order to play. If you don’t have a card that matches, you take a card from the pack.
You and your opponents must try to slow their journeys down, using the special cards. The aim of the game is to avoid delays and be the first person to get rid of all their cards. But, more importantly when you only have 1 card left, you must remember to shout out ‘Mind The Gap’.
We’ve had lots of fun playing this game and it’s definitely coming on holiday with us this year and its nice and small to pack.
The second game is called Race the Rails and the recommended age is 8+. It’s a family game for 2-8 players and you need a bit of space to set the game up. There are route cards, that you lay out where all the players can easily read them. All players are given a starting station card, assistance required card, 2 pennies and a counter.
The youngest player shouts ‘GO’ and everyone must find their starting station on the route cards and place their counter on it. You then note down the name of the station and the time on their answer sheet. You then look for the next station and repeat, until someone hits a Milestone. Milestones shake up the game and you are given a challenge to do.
The winner is the player to reach home with the most money.
It’s a fun game and is fast paced. which Alice loves. You feel like you’re racing around London and it’s a great way to get familiar with our capital city.
