Making Time For a Spa Break…

I’ve always loved a spa break, the chance to have some time away from the busy life and to relax. When I became a mummy it wasn’t easy to find this time, and it definitely wasn’t a priority. As the girls got older I realised that actually having some time to myself was ok, it made me a better mummy to them. A chance to recharge my batteries, to remember who I am and to spend time with people who matter to me.

Now, I love a spa break and try to book a few each year. With both the girls at school it is easier to arrange and I definitely appreciate this time. To go with a friend, where we can put away our phones, have a conversation that we actually get to finish and aren’t constantly interrupted. It just amazing.

When I go on a spa break, I like to book a couple of treatments and a full body massage is the prefect treat. Since having children, my body is what it was. Where I carried them on my hip for years, both the pregnancies and getting up and down off the floor constantly. Its all had an affect. Having a body massage, resets my body and I come away feeling amazing. I just wish that I could have one every month.

I also love to take my book. Reading is a hobby of mine and I’ve always got a book on the go. I usually only get chance to read before I go to sleep and it can take me a while to read a book. When I’m at a spa, it gives me an opportunity to loose myself in my book. Its great for my mind to go to another place for a while.

When looking for spa breaks, I always like to see if they have a hot tub because there is nothing nicer than sitting in the hot tub with my friend and having a good chat. Even better if they serve you a nice glass of bubbly while you’re in there. The great thing about a hot tub, even in the colder months if its outside you can still enjoy it. In fact it is sometimes nicer in the cooler months.

I remember the first time I went to a spa and thought the food at a spa wouldn’t be great. But I was very wrong. Every spa I’ve been to have served up delicious food and so much variety. I love a salad bar, where you can help yourself and I always end of eating food that I wouldn’t normally try before. Lunch at the spa is all part of the experience.

I like to save one treatment until the end and that is a full manicure. I don’t often get my nails done and this is a real treat. To sit and have a manicure is really relaxing and I love spas that have it set up for you to be able to sit with your friend and have it done at the same time. Its really nice to leave the spa with gorgeous nails.

Going to a spa has definitely become my go to when I need sometime away. I love that it can fit around our family routine without me feeling guilty, because we all know that Mum guilt is never easy. I think its really important that whilst we are parents to our girls and we love nothing more than being with them. It’s also important for us to be Laura and Andy. Andy has trips away with his friends too and it works for us.
