Ways to Bring Nature into the Family Home…

At the moment, it seems that we are spending more and more of our time indoors. But as human beings, it’s only natural for us to crave the great outdoors. To feel the sun and wind wash across our faces, to enjoy the touch of a cool leaf against our palms or hear the chirp of a bird singing high up in a nearby tree.

But, of course, we can’t always be surrounded by nature. Many of us work indoors or live with weather that doesn’t always allow us to breathe in that lovely fresh air. The answer? To bring touches of nature into our living spaces.

Read on for my top 3 tips for bringing nature into the family home and be ready to feel much closer to the great outdoors!

  1. Bring in an infusion of plants to clear the air

One of the easiest and economical ways to bring nature into the family home is by filling it with house plants. Not only are you bringing in physical natural elements into the home, but plants also help to purify and freshen the air around you.

With such a broad selection of house plants available, you can really have fun selecting breeds that suit your current décor. My lounge plant certainly looks great in our family lounge. As well as potted plants, simply dotting vases of freshly cut flowers around the home is another great way to bring more of the outdoors in. If you have a garden, why not take snippets of your own flowers? You could even make it a family routine where you and the children select your favourite flowers together. Make sure the children aren’t snipping off the ones you want to keep in the garden!

Tip – when keeping fresh flowers around the home, vases can become scarce! Why not get the children involved by making their own vases using recycled jam jars and paints?

  1. Nature wallpaper murals to bring the outdoors in

A really impactful and easy way to bring nature into the family home is by installing a nature wallpaper. Not only are they gorgeous, but they will last longer than a plant! Especially if you’re as green fingered as I am.

You can buy custom-made mountain, beach, river and tree wallpaper at Wallsauce. Custom-made to fit your wall, Wallsauce.com’s beautiful outdoors wallpapers really make you feel like you’re amongst nature. Sit by a windswept beach, stand high on a frosted mountain top or listen to the trickle of the water as it runs down the river.

The added beauty of a landscape wallpaper is that it is space-enhancing, acting as an additional window to the room. Because of this, they are really easy to accessorise with because they often suit the current décor in your room – no need to go out and buy new furniture!

These beautiful nature wallpapers come in a range of materials from classic or premium paste the wall or textured peel and stick wallpaper. If you are renting, peel and stick is a great option for you. Not only is it easy to install, but it won’t cause damage to the wall when you remove it.

Tip – make choosing your nature wall mural a family event. Look through the designs on the website and have a vote on your favourite designs. Encourage the children to learn how to debate by giving reasons for their favourites!

3. Natural materials and colours to mimic the outdoors

Another way to bring nature into the family home is by choosing a selection of natural shades and materials in your choice of décor.

Colours like green and blue are perfect choices. Green mimics the forests and landscape. Blue reflects the ocean and the skies. Not only are these colours beautiful, but they are great for soothing the mind and body.

Another great way to inject nature into the home is by choosing natural fabrics and materials to mirror those outdoor vibes. Choose natural wooden furniture, such as beech and oak as well as rattan or wicker room accessories such as lamps, baskets or rugs. Not only will this bring a sense of nature into your home, but will provide that on-trend boho trend style into your interior design.

I can’t wait to add more natural elements into my home!
