Dear Holly…The End of Year One!

To My Gorgeous Holly,

Today is your last day of being a year one. It’s been two years of going to school, and the time is flying by. It’s been a topsy turvy year for you, and you’ve handled it like the amazing little girl that you are.

At Christmas we had to say goodbye to your teacher, who had been brilliant and who you loved having. When you started back in January with your new teacher, you kept talking about him and I was worried about how you would settle back in with the new teacher. But, you did and it wasn’t long before you were coming home talking about her.

You were really starting to find your feet with learning, and I could see you making big leaps after Christmas. Then sadly the schools had to close in March because of the coronavirus. I remember your last day, picking you up with your best friend. You waving goodbye to her, shouting “I’ll see you after the coronavirus has gone”. It was the sweetest thing to watch. We had no idea then, that it would be months of schools being closed.

We started home schooling, and you started of enthusiastically. We had our good days and our not so good days. It was a challenge to keep you engaged, especially after break time. When you did do your school work, you were amazing and it was lovely to see you learn new things. We tried to make it fun, and we found things that you loved to do.

Daddy and I then had the hardest decision ever to make. The government had told us that your year group could return to school. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. When we talked about it with you, you were very excited about going back and that definitely made me feel a bit happier with our decision. I’m really proud of how you took the changes at school, you didn’t see them as anything bad, and saw the positives in it all.

I’m pleased to say that you’ve loved being back at school and I haven’t once regretted our decision. It was definitely the right decision for us and you. This week you’ve been bringing home all the work you’ve been doing since you’ve been back and just seeing all this amazing work, just reconfirmed it was the right thing to send you.

When we read your school report, and the teachers comments, it made me cry. Your teacher clearly knows you well. You’re a kind little girl that is always friendly to everyone. If you see anyone upset, you always go to them, and that is an amazing quality to have. You put others first and its lovely that the teachers see this in you, just like we do. Apparently your a joy to have in the classroom.

I’m very proud of you. You always try your hardest, and that is all we can ask of you. You’re an amazing little girl and you have shown this more than ever though this topsy turvy year.

I can’t wait to pick you up one last time as a year one. Pack you school bag away and have the best summer with you.

I love you very much my gorgeous girl.
